How can a New Zealand ***** stay in Ireland when too old to work?
Like I’m over 28 so can’t legally work. Can I do volunteer work with potatoes or something with free lodging re being able to afford to stay a few months. Or does Van Morrison have a charity organisation for Kiwi ****** to be able to stay without it costing them a small fortune without having to do sexual favours? Fiddle Dee Dee.
I would much rather visit the Dublin than the London. And not really worth going over just for a 3 week holiday, re the jetlag all that, may as well stay a couple of months if I can, but can’t afford the accomodation.
Er, Orla, there’s this thing called immigration law, the limit for a kiwi to work in the UK legally is that you MUST be under age 28, unless your parents were born in the UK, which mine weren’t as I’m a fourth generation NZer. I assume your relative has UK parents. Used to also include UK grandparents but I hear they changed that law a couple of years ago made it just parents only.
Crazygirl, that’s funny as my ancestors are from County Cork Dublin (well 3 quarters of them were 1quarter from Bohemia – which I think is pretty cool….)
Er, David D. I AM FROM NEW ZEALAND! Not Australia. That’s like me calling you English.
Misty Blue, I didn’t say anything about UK rules? I was told the age was 28 for Ireland. So there potatoface.

Shure come over.
Come to Cork though. We love sick humour over in Cork.
But tone down the humour a tad bit, for your own good.
Even us Cork people have a limit, humour wise.
Good luck in getting a job here with the Depression blooming and all. You might be lucky though, non-the less.
Good Luck
Edit: Oh make sure you can legally come here before you enter.
Have a look here
on citizen information
Best of Luck.
Edit: Cork is where you got your humour from. I put my foot in my mouth so many times that I have the best shoe collection in the world.
lol
Edit: To the answer below New Zealand is not part of Oz. It is a seperate county.
That is like calling a Canadian person American or visa versa.
Geography maps Rock man. The lord of the rings was filmed in New Zealand. Fab Scenery, boring film, sorry.
That movie is great for a nap. Sorry I am a loyal Naria fan.
Each to their own and all that, I suppose.
Funny that. My sister-in-law is much older than 28 and she’s from NZ and has a great job in Dublin. What type of work do you do that you’re suddenly too old for it at 28?
Addition: I see, I wasn’t aware of this law. It’s a bit bizarre, though, isn’t it? My sister-in-law was born in Scotland, so she’s in Ireland as a British citizen.
I would think that you could stay in Ireland for up to 90 days ….? Have you got no relatives here that can put you up, in exchange for housework/spring-cleaning/organising?
David D: She’s a Kiwi, not an Aussie.
You Aussies are all mad.
Guys- I know the diff between Aussie and Kiwi, but mis-labelling seems to be in fashion
You can do some volunteer work with us if you like. Rodge needs a bed bath every morning and I could do with somebody to hold my tube of gel while I’m in the shower.
What does the U.K. have to do with Ireland?U.K. rules don’t apply in Ireland.
What on earth makes you think you can call a 65-70 year old woman a *****?
Daft bint…
Gee what’s your problem Zebra calling misty blue potato face? you seem so up-yourself and with such a chip on your shoulder. Not just this answer but all of your self-important pretentious drivel. Has your boyfriend dumped you for someone prettier or something?
You can still get granted a Irish working holiday visa until you turn 31. So if you’re 30 never fret, you can still go to Ireland, act like a typical ill-mannered, insecure, il-cultured, ignorant yet know-it-all jafa loser to the embarrassment of the rest of NZ.
I checked out Irish immigration laws, and Irish work permits for non-EU nationals. All the links below give much the same information, and there is nothing at all about an age limit. It goes further by saying that to refuse employment on the grounds of age is illegal here. And to get a work permit, you need a firm offer of employment. Your reply to Orla that the limit for a kiwi to work in the UK legally is that you MUST be under age 28 does not seem to apply here. If it does, I could not find so. The types of employment are fairly strict. You will find details on all the quoted sites.
But also note the news in the Irish Independent newspaper this week
Ireland plans to restrict the availability of work permits for people outside Europe as the economy shrinks and unemployment increases.
The government will apply “a tougher labour market needs test” for permit applications to provide the “maximum opportunity” for job vacancies to be filled from within Ireland and the European Economic Area, the Labour Ministry in Dublin said today in an e-mailed statement. The EEA is the European Union plus Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein.
If you find there is some way that you meet the requirements, I’m sure you will enjoy your stay here.
Irish people can work in new zealand for one year if theyre under 30. So normally New Zealand would have a reciprocal agreement with Ireland so that you can also work here for 1 year as long as you’re under 30 (not 28). Theyre called reciprocal agreements for a reason, so id be very surprised if the age difference is different. Id advise you check with the Irish Embassy themselves.
