Banking between UK and Eire?

Shandy asked:

I will be moving over to Dublin pretty soon but I don’t know how long I will be living there for as my new job is on a temporary contract which is 6 months long and may become permanent in the future.

So, what I want to know is can I be able to keep my UK bank account when I’m over in Ireland because I’ve got car student loan payments to make in sterling also the fact I might return to the UK at a later date? Once I’ve settled in Dublin I intend to visit Newry once a month to make payments into my UK bank account (my UK bank has branches in NI). Is this possible for me to do this that it is quite hard to find any Dublin banks offering sterling accounts without costing an arm and leg?!

Cheers

The bank you deal with in uk may well have some interest in a bank in NI. so, before you take up your new post, pop down and have a talk with them,Most if not all banks make a charge for converting local currency to foreign, but it is worth asking.
