Where to go in Dublin during Arthur’s day?

41@n.G asked:

Hi everybody! Especially Dubliners and those who know the city.
I will visit Dublin for the first time on 23rd and 24th of september. Probably not the best moment to visit it (anyway, in just 2 days…) because of the big commercial event but as a mad of Guiness (and opportunity to see again a girl from Cardiff hehe), that’s sound cool. But I’m lost about gigs! I know big ones are fully booked and don’t especially regret it but if anyone can help me about pubs (taking part in the event or not) with good music that would be great. Especially trad/folk irish music (sounds cliché but as a Breton, I like celtic stuff) or some not-famous-yet local bands.
Thanks!
PS: if anybody knows nice restaurant as well (for the rest of touristic stuff, it’s ok, easy to get on the net)
PPS: sorry for the poor english, I’m french ;)

Well you will have to pay a visit to The Guinness Brewery for starters.
Although it will probably be packed.
Johnny foxes is a bit of a trek but worth the trip.

I wouldn’t recommend the Arlington, although it is noted for Trad nights I found it a bit rough at times.
I would stick to the Temple bar area. It is full of nice pubs and restaurants and caters very well for the tourists and no doubt everywhere around there will have events on to celebrate Arthur’s big day.
Food and drink are expensive so make sure you have plenty of euro’s with you.
And bring a rain coat ;-)

Cardiff is in Wales, dear. A whole other country.

Just google ‘gigs in Dublin’ and see what you find. You want ‘trad music’, it’s not called ‘celtic music’ here.
