well, if your the U.S. then you’ll be in for a surprise. I was in Dublin for Saint Patty’s day a few years back and it was wayyyy different than the Saint Patty’s day we have here. Their parade, while really amazing, was a little more surrealist than any I’ve ever witnessed. It had a theme. And a great deal of American marching bands. AND it opened with three hundred bikers in kilts. And a midget dressed as a leprechaun hit me with a blow-up hammer. It was amazing. Different, but lovely. Also, keep in mind that the Irish only started celebrating Saint Patty’s Day within the last decade or so.
The Irish have always celebrated St Patrick’s Day, it is not a new phenomenon that we suddenly discovered in the last decade, we don’t celebrate on the scale of the US.
St Patrick’s Day is a National Holiday in the Republic and most people get the day off, it is also a Holy Day of Obligation. There’s usually a good atmosphere around the country on the day.
Paddy’s Day. Only an American would call it ‘st Patty’s day’.
