Whats it like for nice restaurants and bars?

Is it a safe area of Dublin away from the rougher areas?

We’re in our 20s but not plannin on goin near clubs or anything.

Thinkin of staying in Merrion Hotel, whats it like?

We’ve been saving for a wee weekend so not really bothered about expense.

Thanks very much for any opinions :)

It’s a lovely area, one of the nicest in the city centre. You’re very near shops, with the Stephen’s Green Centre and Grafton street, and there are lots of good eateries on the streets off Grafton street – I’d recommend the Gotham City Cafe on South Anne Street.

Don’t know anything about the Merrion Hotel, but it might be on, if it is, read the reviews and see for yourself.

Wow! blondie, prepare yourself for some serious pampering. the Merrion is one of the best 5 star hotels in Dublin. It is comprised of 4 old Georgian Town houses dating from the 1750′s, restored into a luxurious hotel in the most fashionable parts of the city. It is beside St Stephens Green, a beautiful peoples park, in the middle of the city.
All the shops and restaurants in the area are top notch, but also reflect the high end prices. Grafton Street, nearby, has the some of highest retail rents in the world.
The area is rich in tourist attractions with Trinity College and Government buildings and all the Municipal Museums right on your doorstep.
If you really want to push the boat out, try booking a meal in Shanahan’s restaurant on the Green.
All I can say is, expect a weekend to remember.
There is no crime in the area, but as a tourist, be savvy and beware of pickpockets and all the other undesirables, which are in every city.
