I've been to Dublin a few times and I've always stayed in Clontarf, a suburb not far from the centre of the city. Its on Dublin Bay, and there are quite a few B B's there, some good, some not so good.

The area is also served by a good bus service that only takes about 15 mins to get into O'Connell Street and the City centre.

Things to do - don't miss the Book of Kells, one of the great art treasures of the world. Also, the National Museum of Ireland is beautiful. I'm sure you'll get a lot of suggestions for pubs here, but these are my personal Dublin favourites.

Have a great time there!

Jurys hotel in Christchurch may be able to offer an 'Inn' type service, so could be a bit basic, its within walking distance to town, and around the corner from the best chipper in Dublin, called Burdocks. Its about a 20 min stroll from temple bar, so you'll be far enough away from all the noise and no need to wait for hours to try get a taxi, its also on the way to Guinness factory.

There are drinking tours of Dublin, I see them when I'm out in town and everyone on them seems to have a good time, it will also give you a few ideas on where to go for the last 2 nights

A pal of mine recommends Buswells hotel in Molesworth Street since it still has good service and is central, while not over expensive:
