Why are White South Africans So Rude?

Jango asked:

I work in customer service in Dublin, Ireland. Over the weekend we’ve had a lot of South African visitors in the city because of the rugby match being held. Anyway, I’ve found every white South African person I’ve encountered to be arrogant, narcissistic and obnoxious. I was really disappointed about this attitude because I thought South Africa had finally moved beyond the 1910s.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?
@assertive5 That’s so low and pathetic. I feel sorry for you.

my names Katherine i am using my dads account,
I’ve been to south Africa 2 times and yes, some
are rude because they grow up rich and having the
dark south Afrikaans do everything for them so don’t worry

    hope this helps!

  2. Snowy Says:

Normal behaviour for them. They are used to an easy lifestyle with everything being done for them by their servants who are usually ethnic people. They are out of their depth when they visit civilised countries, so give as good as you get.

  3. Lorelei Says:

I think they have grown up with a strong sense of entitlement and of being the ruling class. This gives them a rather high-handed and headstrong attitude.

  4. assertive5 Says:

They’re not rude.Maybe you’d like to have the other South Africans.you know the ones who hijack cars,do drive by shootings.robbery and *****.

lol. interesting question. South Africans are generally made up of ppl with different cultural backgrounds ie: white english, white akrikaans, indian, mixed race, blacks – I am South African and i can tell u the percentage of South Africans that are like that are in the minority. They are usually from the white Afrikaans community that had been brought up with a sense of entitlement because of apartheid. Like i say though, its a minority group and usually are ex pats.

Mostly we all work n play together with no issues – its actually quite nice to learn each others cultures.

I have to say that I hate generalising. I think that we should treat people as individuals. However I come across south Africans a lot due to living in london. I have south Africans friends and they are lovely. But I have come across some who are the most horrible and arrogant people ever. I have to say that in london they have a terrible reputation and is the only nationality which is disliked by many. I do not dislike the nation but narrow minded ones who give their country a bad reputation. Unfortunately you would think that some of them come from the wild west, if you catch my drift. I feel very sorry for these people who will never know throughout their life what it is like to be open minded and don’t realise that their backward thinking is from a century (the 19th!)long gone.

Hi all , im a South African – “colored” – ethnic group name given to mix race people in South Africa – basically a culture within a culture who has it origins from White British and Dutch People who had Bushman and Khoi San Woman (the original indigenous people of South Africa) also mixed with Malaysians.

    It is sad that the :Kleurling Story never gets told to the world but if I may ;

We are basically like the Hespanics/Amirican Indians of South America with rebalances that you cannot really differentiate but some of us also have close resemblances to our Khoi San heritage.
The colored people were the laborers of the apartheid regime – we basically build everything and did the farming for the South African Farmers known as Plaas Boere. The male laborers were paid with alcohol and this till today is a major inherited problem many colored families face – kids were born with weak minds because of alcohol syndrome. Colored’s were tolerated more by whites than black Africans perhaps because our features and thus had more privileges until later in South African time when all the colored properties were taken by government – I mean the best properties – when you visit Cape Town one day ask where district six was/is – we were moved to the ghettos and lived in similar blacks like the American ghetto’s. Complete families torn apart – many children left fatherless. My grandfathers job given to a white male who wasn’t even qualified to do the job – neither had the education. Many white people refused to work with blacks and coloreds . You think the bus was bad – my people had to go to the same shop as whites but go around the back and pay the same price. We were referred to s hotnot , koellie, kaffer. Dignity was stripped and all colored people could do is pray – Christianity is really big in our communities. Colored Christians and Muslim Colored lived peacefully together then.

We are not really recognized as black but when we apply for jobs that’s the only time we get recognition.

The ruling party in South Africa does not want to recognize the Colored contribution to the struggle when the ANC was disbanded and Nelson Mandela put in jail the United Democratic Front ran some of the underground resistance. When Mandela was released we were happy to join with him – but all the other leaders that followed had a shady track record.

On your comment about White South Africans – not all of them are like that – me being part of the younger generation have friends from different races. But with exception to allot of older white South Africans that still have the economic power in their hand – you must really be here to experience it and the real sad thing is – they teach that hatred to their kids. TV shows about rainbow south Africa which is a lie – In the workplace there is constant in fighting between white management and black –
The black guy gets the exec job above the white guy (the white guy forgetting two generations back his forefather did the same) – the black guy needs to be honed in that position but white managers do allot to sabotage black appointments – obviously this cannot be proven. You here of Julius Malema – I don’t like the guy but he is feeding flames to get black South Africa to take what they want from all the other races – strange hey they don’t mention how the Zulus , Xhosas killed the Bushman and Koi San way before the white man came to South Africa. History shows that every nation has a dark past but we can change it but how can we change if some aren’t even apologizing to what they did – especially in South Africa. To this day since 1994 no white official has really apologized for the thousands of murders and injustices done to the African people ( the people have nothing – imagine in 2011 people still who don’t have warm water to bath in) Yet our white counterparts say they got the land and money from their parents , them from their parents – where did their parents get it from. Recently De Beers Diamond company was sold for 4 Billion Dollars – to which the country isn’t going to see a cent – diamonds from our back yard – a company started with British heritage ( don’t let us even start) Rothschild’s and Cecil John Rhodes .

Things are still not right in South Africa until everyone really admits and agrees to work together for good.

White South Africans still look at us funny – closing their doors when we walk pass their cars. it’s a scandal if a white girl marries a black guy . White pay grades are more . Schooling is better , Can afford overseas holidays. I work with a elder type gentlemen and told me he is has worked the company almost 25 years and the same white people who were then in power are still in power – the same people who mistreated him a like filthy cloth he has forgiven and still make them tea – still greets them in the morning and afternoon – I f that isn’t forgiveness I don’t know what is – by the way the same guy still earns the least in the office and is still in the same position.

You must take your hat of to Nelson Mandela and his advisors – the main one being a colored guy Jakes Gerwel – Mandela’s advisor – to have gone into a new government without a blood bath. I was younger then but remember the marches through the roads of our neighborhood late at night- march of freedom – to have basic things like water and bread , healthcare and education .

When you see marches on TV don’t think the people aren’t marching for a reason but know these people have to march just to get treated by a first class doctor while their white counterparts can afford it. Also the South Africa is teenager finishing her high school degree with a kid and going to college – broken and beaten down but the potential is within us still.

Thank God for all black South Africans because they chose not to slay the minority and chose Mandela’s peace resolution .

We have a freedom charter and it Says : South Africa Belongs to all who live it – I wish the present government can read this.

White South Africa – we have forgiven you – it’s time you forgive yourself and ask for forgivingness – I this is making you a bitter people still

    Much love

    Die Wagter (means the watcher)
I’m who God says I am : My peoples past have been redeemed and forgiven – my people is any race who stands on the side of Christ Jesus

They are awful, and yes its because they believe they are above. I recently worked for them and did not last due to how rude and outright awful they are. In my life I have met hundreds and in all there were two that were very nice respectful people. I speak back to the now like there are pieces of shit because I truely believe there are…. so just rip right into them remember there are not worth the air they waste on this earth…

  9. Jess Says:

I am actually quite disappointed at this question and the responses I have read thus far. Isn’t it ironic that the behavior being complained about is in fact mirrored in the many judgmental words murmured above? A person is a person and thus should be taken in their entirety for their unique self = their individuality. I have worked with South Africans (of ALL races, ethnic groups, cultures as well as members of all official 11 languages) over many years and have found them to be the most warm hearted people I have the privilege of knowing. Yes true I have met a few that may not have (in my opinion) acted appropriately but this is NOT something that I am now going to generalize about. I have been to Ireland on more then one occasion and have experienced more disturbing events there in the two years I was present, in comparison to the over ten years I have in South Africa. The same can be said for London. This DOES NOT mean however, that I now judge the rest of the people in Ireland and England because of those experiences. In fact, the so called “attitude of the 1910s” (that you refer to) would be the ‘closed-minded’ belief that just because you have had some bad experiences with certain people, that this must mean the rest are like that as well. I honestly hope that people learn not to judge people by what others do. It not only unfair but also extremely saddening. South Africa is a beautiful country with amazing people (like many other countries and people within this world) and as long as people go on equally judging those around them, then I’m not so sure we deserve to have the privilege to know each other at all.

Omg they are all so fuckin snooty! EW! like even the nast ugly poor ones!

  11. Mat Says:

Hey, what an interesting post.I am a liberal young guy, I believe in the beauty of all cultures, and I would happily say that I am very against racism, especially a generalization of a whole race.
But! Seriously! what the fuck is with those rude pieces of shit?
My mom, her neighbours are south African, and the dick head husband works away and the female is a doctor. They have a one year old son, My mother who works two jobs baby-sits him out of her own kindness, she is paid nothing. They EXPECT it to be done.
They are such fucking rude people, and they seem to have this sense of entitlement EVERYWHERE they go! This is Australia, you don’t deserve shit!
I am a white australian, and yet they still treat me as if I am a poor black slave, and basically dismiss me every time I say hello to them as I pull up my mothers drive.
Seriously if you are leaving South Africa to live in a functional, happy, peaceful and tolerant country such as Australia. Leave your fucking attitude back home.
God! I can’t fucking stand them.
